Dr. Alexander Pöthig is a group leader at the Chair of Inorganic and Metal-Organic Chemistry at Technical University of Munich (TUM), led by Prof. Roland A. Fischer. His research focuses on supramolecular organometallic chemistry, including pillarplex and capsoplex systems, hybrid carbene ligands, and functional metallosupramolecular materials. He leads a dynamic team of PhD and master's students, with notable collaborations across institutions globally. Recent projects include investigations into DNA-binding organometallics, multiphoton absorption materials, and antimicrobial metal complexes.

- Key Research Areas: Supramolecular chemistry, catalytic activation of small molecules, metal-organic frameworks, and photophysical materials
Dr. Pöthig has received the Vanguard Fellowship from the University of Birmingham Institute of Advanced Studies. His group's work spans from fundamental ligand design to applied materials science, with emphasis on functionalizing organometallic systems for real-world applications like drug delivery and energy storage.
Current team includes PhD students Simon Deger, Thomas Pickl, and master's students Fjolla Haska and Balasai Bock. Past collaborations include work with Prof. Polly Arnold (UC Berkeley) and Prof. Jason Love (University of Edinburgh). His lab explores pillarplex-based nano-reactors, rotaxane switches, and hybrid cyclophane ligands.
