Dr. Alexander Petrov is a Research Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He will obtain his PhD in Mathematics from Harvard University in 2022, where he was advised by Professor Mark Kisin. Petrov's research focuses on advanced topics in number theory and algebraic geometry.
- Proved geometrically irreducible arithmetic local systems on varieties over p-adic fields are essentially de Rham (settling Litt's conjecture)
- Generalized Belyi's theorem to show irreducible Galois representations appear in algebraic functions on the thrice punctured sphere's fundamental group
- Provided counterexamples to Scholze's conjecture on Hodge symmetry for rigid analytic varieties
He was appointed as a Clay Research Fellow starting July 1, 2022, for a five-year term.
