Alexander Nathaniel Johnston

Alexander Nathaniel Johnston is an Assistant Professor of Instruction in Electrical Engineering at The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) since 2023. He concurrently holds roles as a Contracting Business Service Analyst at Scot Forge and an Electronics Engineer at Noblis MSD. His education includes a PhD (2022) and BS (2019) in Electrical Engineering from UTA.

His research focuses on energy storage systems, battery technologies, and their applications in military and naval contexts. Notable projects include pulsed evaluation of zinc batteries, high-power transient load emulators, and drone propulsion for underground mining. He has secured substantial grants from agencies like the Office of Naval Research and the Office of the Secretary of Defense, totaling over $10 million in funding.

Johnston has been recognized with the IPMHVC High Voltage Association Student Excellence Award (IEEE, 2022). He teaches courses ranging from sophomore labs to doctoral research supervision, including EE 2240, EE 4240, and thesis/dissertation guidance. His service roles include participation in the Electric Ship Technology Symposium and community outreach via the First Lego League Competition.
