Alexander Mukasyan is a Research Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Notre Dame, and Director of the Advanced Electron Microscopy Core within the Notre Dame Integrated Imaging Facility since 2008. He has held roles including Professional Specialist (1997) and Research Professor (2000). His research focuses on advanced materials engineering, with emphasis on combustion synthesis, high entropy alloys, nanotechnology, and catalytic materials.
His scientific contributions include over 180 publications and three books, particularly in areas such as self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS), spark plasma sintering (SPS), and material characterization via advanced microscopy. Key research directions include nanomaterials fabrication, energy storage materials, and high-temperature ceramics.
Mukasyan’s work spans interdisciplinary applications in aerospace, energy systems, and biomedical engineering. He has pioneered methods for synthesizing ultra-high-temperature ceramics, high-entropy alloys, and functional nanocomposites using novel processing techniques. His lab emphasizes bridging fundamental material science with industrial-scale applications.
