Alexander Idesman

Dr. Alexander Idesman serves as Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Texas Tech University's Whitacre College of Engineering, where he directs the Computational Mechanics Lab. His work focuses on developing advanced numerical algorithms for mechanical systems simulation and solving complex engineering problems.

Education:

• Ph.D. in Continuum Mechanics from Institute of Problems of Strength (1989)
• M.S. (Honors) in Mechanical Engineering from Kiev Institute of Technology, Kiev (1982)

His research specializes in computational mechanics with emphasis on high-order numerical methods for partial differential equations, finite element algorithms for wave propagation and structural dynamics, time-integration techniques for elastodynamics, and nonlinear problems involving thermal/elastic/plastic strains and martensitic phase transitions in materials like steels and shape memory alloys. This work enables sophisticated numerical simulation of diverse engineering challenges.
