Alexander Helbig

Alexander Helbig is a Research Fellow at the Berlin Social Science Center (WZB), where he has been actively contributing to the National Educational Panel Study (NEPS) project group on Vocational Training and Lifelong Learning since October 2018.

His research centers on vocational education systems, adult learning dynamics, and labour market integration, with particular focus on non-formal training for temporary workers and educational transitions. Helbig leverages large-scale longitudinal data from NEPS to analyze how institutional frameworks shape lifelong learning opportunities and social mobility trajectories.

Recent publications (2021-2023) demonstrate consistent methodological rigor in handling complex educational panel data, with emerging trends showing increased policy relevance—particularly in translating NEPS findings for governmental reporting on vocational training and analyzing structural determinants of social mobility.

Helbig participates in major research initiatives including NEPS Stage 6 (Vocational Training and Transitions into the Labour Market) and Stage 8 (Adult Education and Lifelong Learning), alongside federally commissioned studies like the social mobility analysis for Germany's Sixth Poverty and Wealth Report. He operates within WZB's dedicated research group at Reichpietschufer 50, Berlin (Room D 206), where he continues to advance empirical investigations into education-labour market linkages.
