Alexander Garcia-Putnam is a Research Fellow in the Department of Anthropology at the University of New Hampshire's College of Liberal Arts, working in the Forensic Anthropology Identification and Recovery (F.A.I.R.) Lab. As a historical bioarchaeologist, he specializes in intersections of inequality, violence, and epidemic disease, with active research projects in Peru and Louisiana.
Education includes:
- Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Wyoming
Research focuses on applied bioarchaeology, descendant community collaboration, and osteological collections. His Louisiana work examines skeletal remains from Charity Hospital (1840s-1920s), revealing experiences of poverty and postmortem treatment. A parallel biohistoric project analyzes hospital records to understand Yellow Fever's impact. His Peruvian research investigates colonial-era labor exploitation through textile workshop excavations.
Publications demonstrate consistent focus on bioarchaeological analysis of marginalized populations, using skeletal evidence to reconstruct lived experiences of poverty, violence, and institutional practices in historical contexts across diverse geographic regions.
