معرفی
Associate Professor Alexander G Thompson is affiliated with the University of Oxford, working at the Target Discovery Institute and collaborating with the Oxford Motor Neuron Disease Centre. He is an Honorary Consultant Neurologist at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Research Focus: Developing neurochemical markers for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Thompson’s work centers on early detection of cellular dysfunction in asymptomatic carriers of ALS gene mutations through proteomic analysis of cerebrospinal fluid and extracellular vesicles. His research also aims to improve targeted gene therapies and patient stratification methods.
Publications reveal trends in
- Biofluid biomarker discovery in ALS
- Role of neurofilament light chain in disease monitoring
- Chitinase proteins and neuroinflammatory markers
- Genetic risk factors and pathway analysis
Scientific Awards & Grants:
- MNDA Lady Edith Wolfson Fellow
- MRC Clinician Scientist
- Funding from Motor Neurone Disease Association
- Medical Research Council grants
Clinical Roles: Combines academic research with clinical practice as a consultant neurologist, bridging laboratory findings with patient care in both specialized MND and general neurology settings.
