Alexander Fattal is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication at UC San Diego. His work bridges visual anthropology, media studies, and documentary arts, focusing on the Colombian armed conflict, post-war peacebuilding, and the politics of visual representation. He holds leadership roles in organizations like the Society of Visual Anthropology and the AjA Project, a media nonprofit supporting marginalized youth.
Education: Fulbright Scholar (Colombia, 2001-2002 and 2018), Harvard University Sensory Ethnography Lab affiliation.
Research interests include spectacle, capitalism, social media, Latin American cinema, and experimental documentary. His projects combine academic rigor with creative outputs like films and participatory photography initiatives.
Key publications and films include Guerrilla Marketing (2018), Shooting Cameras for Peace (2020), and Limbo (2019). His work has been recognized with awards from the American Ethnological Association, Latin American Studies Association, and others.

Current projects explore Colombian photography history, refugee cinema, and a family narrative on the Yemeni Children Affair in Israel.
