Dr. Alexander Douglas serves as Senior Lecturer in Philosophy and Director of Teaching at the University of St Andrews' School of Philosophical, Anthropological and Film Studies. His research centers on philosophy of economics, political philosophy, and the works of Spinoza. Douglas examines the intersection of economic systems, social desire, and moral philosophy through both historical and contemporary lenses.
His scholarly output demonstrates expertise in Spinoza's metaphysics and ethics, monetary theory, and meritocratic systems. Recent publications explore economic policy reforms including permanent zero interest rate proposals and critiques of meritocracy. Douglas supervises doctoral candidates working on political economy and philosophy of economics, and contributes to public discourse through media engagements on economic policy.
