Alexander Deyhim is the Kenneth and Mary Ann Shaw Professor of Practice in Entrepreneurial Leadership at Syracuse University's Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. He serves as Director of Invent@SU, a program fostering student innovation through engineering design and entrepreneurship. With degrees from Cornell University (MBA, Master of Engineering) and the University of Reading (B.S.), Deyhim brings 30+ years of industry experience, including founding Advanced Design Consulting (ADC) USA Inc., which managed projects for NASA, ITER, and others across 26 countries.
His teaching focuses on entrepreneurial engineering, including courses like MAE 500: Entrepreneurship for Engineers. He emphasizes hands-on projects with industry partners such as Boeing and Intel, bridging academia and industry. Awards include the MAE Teaching Excellence Award (2023).
Invent@SU teams under his guidance develop prototypes like the EasyUP staircase for elderly safety, the Rising Cane mobility aid, and medical devices like GluTrace for diabetes monitoring. His research spans electromechanical systems, particle accelerators, and structural health monitoring, reflected in publications from 1996 to 2014.
