J. Alex Thompson is an Assistant Professor of Nursing and Assistant Director of Simulation at Carthage College. A first-generation student from Arkansas, he holds a DNP from The George Washington University, a Master's in Nursing Administration from Indiana State University, and prior degrees in history/gender studies (Hendrix College) and higher education administration (University of Arkansas).

His research focuses on simulation-based education to enhance culturally responsive care, ethical decision-making, and professional identity development in nursing. Prof. Thompson has extensive clinical experience in medical-surgical, emergency, critical care, and mental health nursing, alongside roles in clinical staff development where he designed BLS/ACLS/PALS training programs.
A Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) and Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE), he actively participates in professional organizations including INACSL, Sigma Theta Tau International, and GLMA. His teaching spans undergraduate and graduate nursing programs at institutions like Des Moines Area Community College and Marquette University.
