Alex Rogals is a Substitute Distinguished Lecturer and Career Services Liaison within the Japanese Program at Hunter College's Classical and Oriental Studies department. He holds a PhD from the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa and an MFA in stage directing from UCLA.

His research focuses on the role of regionalization in preserving and evolving Japanese traditional performing arts, particularly Sagi kyōgen. He explores intersections of creativity and community in Japanese culture, reflected in courses like Japanese Contemporary Theatre and Animals in Japanese Culture.
He has taught World Theatre, Arts Education, and Stage Directing at multiple institutions. As an artist, he has directed, written, and performed in theater and film across New York, Los Angeles, Hawai'i, and Japan.
