Professor Alex Kuzmich is a faculty member in the Department of Physics at the University of Michigan, holding the Martin L. Perl Collegiate Professor of Physics title. His research focuses on atomic physics and quantum information, utilizing ultracold atoms and trapped ions in ultrahigh vacuum environments.
- Degree: Ph.D. (University of Rochester, 2000), B.S. (Belarus State University, 1994)
His work includes groundbreaking achievements like quantum state transfer between matter and light (2004) and remote entanglement between matter qubits (2013). Current research explores Rydberg-level interactions, quantum many-body physics, and scalable quantum networks using long-lived quantum memories.
Analysis of his publications reveals trends in quantum optics, entanglement, Rydberg atom interactions, and precision metrology with thorium-based systems. Key subfields include quantum memory, nuclear clocks, single-photon sources, and collective atomic effects.
He works in the Homer A. Neal Lab (4219 Homer A. Neal Lab, 450 Church Street, Ann Arbor, MI 48109-1040) and is actively engaged in experimental physics research.
