Alex Jeffrey

Professor Alex Jeffrey is a political and legal geographer at the University of Cambridge's Department of Geography, and a Fellow of Emmanuel College. He holds the title of Professor of Political and Legal Geography. His research focuses on state-building after conflict, particularly in the former Yugoslavia, and explores themes such as transitional justice, geographies of law, and citizenship in divided societies. He currently directs undergraduate studies in the department and supervises PhD students including Enrique Cadenas and Benjamin Thurlow. His work has been funded by ESRC grants and other institutional support, resulting in key publications like The Edge of Law (2020) and The Improvised State (2013). He teaches courses on geopolitics, civil society, and legal geographies, and has received the Pilkington Prize for Teaching in 2018.
