Alex Degtyarev

Professor Alex Degtyarev specializes in algebraic and topological geometry at Bilkent University's Department of Mathematics. His research centers on:

• Topology of algebraic curves and surfaces
• Real algebraic geometry and its topological invariants
• Dessins d'enfants combinatorial techniques
• Enumerative geometry of lines and conics on surfaces

Recent work examines geometric properties of special surfaces including Barth-Bauer octics, supersingular quartics, and plane sextics, with focus on their combinatorial and topological characteristics. He has developed novel approaches for studying real algebraic curves via dessins d'enfants.
