Alex Chen

Alex Chen is an Assistant Professor of Physics at Washington University in St. Louis, affiliated with the McDonnell Center for the Space Sciences. He holds a PhD in Physics from Columbia University (2017) and completed postdoctoral research at Princeton University and the University of Colorado Boulder. His work focuses on simulating plasma physics and radiative processes near neutron stars and black holes using GPU-based supercomputers.

Publications: Recent work emphasizes computational models of pulsar magnetospheres, black hole plasma dynamics, and machine learning applications in radiation physics. These studies aim to unify theoretical frameworks for understanding pulsar radiation across electromagnetic spectra.

Grants & Awards: In 2023, Chen and Yajie Yuan secured a $447,000 NSF grant to develop unified models of pulsar emissions using supercomputer simulations. This work includes educational outreach through high-energy astrophysics summer schools.
