Dr. Alex Aylward is a Departmental Lecturer in the History of Science at the Faculty of History, University of Oxford. He joined the faculty in October 2021 after completing his PhD at the University of Leeds and holding visiting fellowships at Charles University, Prague, and the American Philosophical Society in Philadelphia.

His research focuses on:
- History of modern science (1800–present)
- History of evolutionary biology and genetics
- Eugenics and population control
- Race science and scientific racism
- History of scientific publishing and reading
- Historiography of the history of science
His recent work examines the historiographical implications of classic scientific texts. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on history of science, including topics like 'The Authority of Nature: Race, Heredity and Crime' and 'Methods and Themes in History of Science'.
