He holds a PhD in Mathematical and Statistical Methods and serves on the Ethics Committee of the Umbria Region and the Phase 1 Study Unit of Perugia Hospital. His research focuses on cancer epidemiology, flexible parametric models, spatial analysis, and multilevel modeling to address health inequalities. He has collaborated extensively with the Umbrian Population Cancer Registry and contributed to studies on toxicology, clinical epidemiology, and oncological prognostic modeling.
Professor Gili has authored over 100 scientific articles with over 1,000 citations (H-index Scopus 16, Scholar 19), published in journals like Scientific Reports, Leukemia, and Genes. He currently serves as Senior Reviewer for BMC Medical Research Methodology, Topic Editor for Journal of Clinical Medicine, and Statistical Officer for Scenario. His teaching roles include instructing master’s programs in Data Science and Machine Learning across institutions like the Polytechnic University of Marche.
His research interests span epidemiological methodological innovations, including applications of machine learning in healthcare, public health policy, and interdisciplinary collaborations addressing addiction and infectious disease challenges. He has investigated the societal impacts of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, including healthcare resource allocation and long-term sequelae of infections.
Gili’s work integrates advanced statistical tools (e.g., R and Stata) with clinical data to improve diagnostic accuracy and treatment outcomes. He has pioneered studies on surgical site infection prediction and optimized diagnostic pathways for lung cancer, emphasizing real-world application of research findings.
