Alessandro Soro

Alessandro Soro is an Associate Professor in the School of Computer Science at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Faculty of Science. His research lies at the intersection of Human-Computer Interaction, Social Computing, and Participatory Design, with a focus on technologies that support socialization, communication, and creativity across diverse populations.

Alessandro's research interests include Augmented Reality, Internet of Things, cross-cultural design, and co-design with Indigenous communities. His work emphasizes ethical, inclusive, and community-driven approaches to technology development.

His recent publications reflect a strong trend in designing for aging populations, civic engagement through AR, and socio-technical challenges in automated mobility. His influential work on the Messaging Kettle and Ambient Birdhouse illustrates how IoT can foster emotional connection and environmental awareness.

Alessandro actively supervises PhD students in areas such as relational technologies for dementia care and AR for women in STEM.
