Alessandro Sanzeni is an Assistant Professor at Bocconi University's Department of Computing Sciences since September 2022. Prior to this, he conducted research at Columbia University, Duke University, and the National Institutes of Health, with visiting appointments at the University of Chicago, University of California San Diego, and the Pasteur Institute in Paris. He holds a background in theoretical physics from the University of Milan, Italy.
His research integrates theoretical frameworks (mathematical modeling, statistical physics, machine learning) with experimental neuroscience to study the visual system's computational principles, focusing on:
- Functional Models: Visual hierarchy transformations and abstraction mechanisms.
- Mechanistic Models: Neural dynamics across scales (dendritic, circuit, and multi-area interactions).
- Normative Models: Evolutionary advantages of brain network architectures over artificial models.
Publications highlight his work on cortical networks, optogenetic stimulation, and mechanotransduction in sensory processing.
