Alessandro Iandolo is a Lecturer in Soviet/Post-Soviet History at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies (SSEES), University College London. His research focuses on the USSR’s global economic, intellectual, and political interactions during the Cold War, particularly with Africa, Asia, and Latin America. He holds a PhD from the University of Oxford (2012) and has held academic positions at Harvard, Columbia, LSE, and other institutions.
Research Interests:
• Soviet engagement with global South economies
• Cold War economic diplomacy
• Intellectual exchanges between Soviet and Latin American economists
• The USSR’s development economics theories
His book Arrested Development won major prizes for Russian and Soviet historical scholarship. Current projects explore Latin American-Soviet intellectual exchanges on 'dependency' theories. Grants received include ERC, Fulbright, British Academy, and ESRC funding.
