Alessandro Giammei is an Assistant Professor of Italian Studies at Yale University, specializing in modern and contemporary literature and art. His research interrogates genealogical roots in early modern and classical traditions, blending queer theory, speculative realism, and trans-national perspectives. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Rome La Sapienza and Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa. Previously, he served as a Cotsen Fellow at Princeton University and taught at Bryn Mawr College. He is a co-founder of the Prison Teaching Initiative’s Humanities curriculum.

Current projects include a monograph on Shakespeare’s ghost in fascist-era philology and Il Rinascimento è uno zombie, examining Renaissance cultural mythologies.
Publications span academic journals like The Paris Review and Flash Art, as well as popular media including Vanity Fair and Italian newspapers like il manifesto. He regularly contributes to public discourse on masculinity, gender, and cultural critique.
