Alessandra Romolo

Alessandra Romolo serves as Associate Professor in Ocean Engineering at the Mediterranea University of Reggio Calabria (UNIRC), where she also earned her Ph.D. in Maritime Engineering. She holds the National Scientific Qualification as Associate Professor in the Italian University sector of Hydraulics, Hydrology, Hydraulic and Marine Constructions.

Her research spans coastal protection structures (including caisson breakwaters) and innovative wave energy harvesting systems like the ReWEC3 device. She possesses deep expertise in wave mechanics, space-time domain statistics, coastal processes, and marine structure reliability, with methodological contributions in non-linear wave dynamics for homogeneous/inhomogeneous fields and wave extremes analysis. Her work bridges theoretical wave climate modeling with practical coastal infrastructure applications.

Dr. Romolo is affiliated with UNIRC's NOEL lab and leads significant research initiatives across 10 projects: 5 nationally funded and 5 through EU Framework Programmes. She serves as scientific responsible for specific activities in 3 projects and is beneficiary of two EU projects, including a Marie Curie FP7-PEOPLE-2013-IRSES grant at Columbia University studying non-Gaussian processes for sea waves and REWEC3 devices, plus the TEN-T Project 2013-IT-92050-S for green port mobility in Civitavecchia.
