Alessandra Nerviani

Dr Alessandra Nerviani is a Clinical Research Fellow at the William Harvey Research Institute, Queen Mary University of London. Her work focuses on rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and other autoimmune conditions, with a particular emphasis on synovial tissue pathobiology, biomarker discovery, and treatment response mechanisms. She contributes to clinical trials like the R4RA trial, investigating therapeutic strategies such as rituximab and tocilizumab. Her research integrates molecular profiling, histopathology, and cellular analysis to define disease subtypes and improve patient stratification for targeted therapies.

Key research interests include TAM receptors (Axl/MerTK), synovial inflammation pathways, and the role of B cells and macrophages in disease progression. She has published extensively on synovial tissue signatures, biomarkers for disease activity, and mechanisms underlying treatment resistance in RA and related conditions.
