Prof. Dr. Alena Bleicher is a faculty member in the Department of Economics at Harz University of Applied Sciences. Her work bridges environmental sociology, non-knowledge studies, and resource governance, with a focus on sociotechnical interfaces in renewable energy, raw material extraction, and circular economy systems. She leads interdisciplinary projects funded by the DFG and BMBF, including K3I-Cycling (AI-optimized plastic recycling) and INKleSS (non-knowledge dynamics in software engineering).
- Professor, Harz University of Applied Sciences (since 2024)
- Co-editor, Handbook of Environmental Sociology (Springer, 2nd ed. 2024)
Research Interests: She examines how non-knowledge impacts environmental governance, public engagement in technology design, and the social dynamics of raw material extraction from primary/secondary sources. Her work integrates qualitative methods with empirical case studies in geothermal energy, mining waste recycling, and digital transformation.
Recent Publications analyze AI's role in waste management, epistemic humility in science, and sociotechnical challenges in wind/geothermal energy expansion. Her supervised theses address topics like evidence-based visitor management in biosphere reserves and climate justice perceptions in activism.
Projects: She coordinates REMINTA (mineral recycling from tailings) and contributes to the Collaborative Research Centre TRR 294 on property structural change, investigating wind/geothermal energy’s impact on ownership systems.
Teaching: Offers courses on qualitative research methods, scientific practice, and business ethics across bachelor’s and master’s programs in International Business, Tourism Management, and Business Psychology.
