Aleksandra Jakubowski is an Assistant Professor at Northeastern University with a joint appointment in the Department of Health Sciences (tenure home) and the Department of Economics. Her research focuses on health economics and public policy, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. She designs field experiments and analyzes secondary data to address global health disparities, emphasizing the interplay between health and socioeconomic status. Dr. Jakubowski collaborates closely with policymakers and communities to ensure contextualized, actionable research outcomes.
Education: PhD in Health Policy (Economics Track) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2017) and MPH in Health Policy and Management from Columbia University (2011). Prior roles include postdoctoral positions at UC Berkeley and Stanford University. She holds dual affiliations with the Bouvé College of Health Sciences and the College of Social Sciences and Humanities at Northeastern.
Research Interests: Global health equity, causal inference methodologies, women’s and child health, and health systems strengthening. Her work examines how public policies affect household economic outcomes and healthcare decision-making, with a focus on marginalized populations.
Current Projects: Includes studies on maternal healthcare access in Ghana, biometric attendance tracking for healthcare workers in Uganda, and the socioeconomic impacts of HIV treatment scale-up in East Africa.
Collaborative Approach: Engages multidisciplinary teams and local stakeholders to ensure research aligns with policy priorities. Recent projects include evaluating the US President’s Malaria Initiative’s impact on child mortality and assessing how health aid influences global public opinion.
