Aleksander Krag

Aleksander Krag is a Clinical Professor and Department Chair at the Department of Clinical Research, University of Southern Denmark (SDU), and is affiliated with Odense University Hospital (OUH) and the Research Unit of Medical Gastroenterology in Odense. He is a physician with a PhD and MBA, and leads multiple research initiatives in liver diseases, particularly focusing on fibrosis, cirrhosis, and metabolic liver disorders.

His research interests are centered on liver cirrhosis, liver fibrosis, alcohol-related liver disease, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), and the role of biomarkers in early diagnosis and personalized medicine. He is deeply involved in microbiome research and its implications for liver health. His work spans clinical, translational, and public health domains, with a strong emphasis on noninvasive diagnostics and preventive strategies.

The recent articles highlight a focus on biomarker discovery (e.g., TREM2, PRO-C3), proteomic profiling of MASLD, consensus development in microbiome research, and public health advocacy regarding alcohol harms in youth. His research demonstrates a consistent trend toward integrating molecular diagnostics with clinical outcomes and population-level interventions.

He has supervised multiple PhD students and is actively involved in major research projects such as LIVERAIM, LiverScreen, and GALAXY, which aim to improve early detection and management of chronic liver diseases.
