Aleksandar Fatić is a Research Professor of Social Science at the University of Belgrade's Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory, a position he has held since February 2013. He also serves as Professor of Philosophy at Singidunum University's Faculty of Media and Communications since October 2013. Additionally, he is the Director of the Institute for Practical Humanities and holds leadership positions as National Director for the training of psychotherapists in Modal Integrative Psychotherapy and as a Fellow and International Board Member of the American Philosophical Practitioners Association (APPA).
Fatić received his PhD in Philosophy from the Australian National University in Canberra in 1996. His academic journey includes teaching positions at the University of South Australia in Adelaide, Charles University in Prague, and Anglo-American College in Prague. He previously served as Director of the Institute for International Politics and Economics in Belgrade, where he held various roles from researcher to Director and Head of the Research Board. His international experience includes visiting positions at prestigious institutions including University of Oxford (St. Antony's College), King's College London, London School of Economics, University of Helsinki, and Beijing Foreign Studies University.
Fatić specializes in integrative philosophy with emphasis on philosophy of psychology and psychiatry, philosophical practice, and political philosophy. His research demonstrates a unique integration of modal logic with therapeutic practices, exploring topics such as narcissism, normalcy, family ethics, and the philosophical foundations of psychotherapy. He has developed Modal Integrative Psychotherapy, which represents his signature contribution to bridging philosophical inquiry with clinical practice. His work consistently examines the intersection of ethics, psychology, and social theory, particularly focusing on how philosophical practice can augment therapeutic outcomes and social engagement.
His recent publications reveal a strong trend toward exploring psychological conditions through philosophical frameworks, with particular attention to narcissism, victimhood paradigms, and the concept of normalcy. Fatić's scholarship demonstrates a consistent integration of modal logic with therapeutic practice, creating a distinctive approach that bridges continental philosophy with clinical psychology. Fatić has supervised numerous Master's and PhD students through his ongoing teaching positions at Singidunum University, where he teaches courses on Strategic Planning and Modern Technologies of Decision-Making and Negotiation and Public Presentation. His research has been supported by various international organizations, including the Swedish Agency for International Development (SIDA), which funded his work on ethics standards for criminal intelligence. He has served on Belgrade University's High Council on Social Sciences since 2014 and was a member of the University's Professional Ethics Committee from 2014 to 2017.
As founder of Modal Integrative Psychotherapy and Director of the Institute for Practical Humanities, Fatić leads initiatives that bridge academic philosophy with practical applications in counseling and psychotherapy. His work connects with several research laboratories at the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory, particularly those focused on social critique, active citizenship, and philosophical practice. Through his leadership roles and scholarly contributions, Fatić has established a distinctive interdisciplinary approach that integrates philosophical inquiry with psychological practice and social engagement.
