Alejandro González-Martín

Alejandro González-Martín is a Full Professor in the Department of Didactics at the Faculty of Education Sciences, University of Montreal. He holds significant administrative responsibilities including being responsible for bachelor's programs in secondary mathematics teaching since 2024, master's in secondary teaching since 2018, and the teaching qualification microprogram since 2015. He is actively involved in multiple research projects focusing on mathematics education in university settings.

Dr. González-Martín earned his Baccalauréat in Mathematical Sciences (2000), Master's in Mathematics Didactics (2002), Advanced Studies Diploma in Mathematics Didactics (2003), and Doctorate in Mathematics Didactics with European Mention (2005), all from Universidad de La Laguna in Spain.

His research focuses on university-level mathematics education, particularly calculus and analysis teaching, the role of mathematics in STEM fields (especially engineering), textbook analysis, institutional analysis of mathematics teaching at postsecondary levels, and teacher preparation. His work often employs praxeological analysis and examines how mathematical concepts like derivatives and integrals are used across disciplines.

His publication record shows a strong focus on the intersection of mathematics education with engineering and physics contexts, particularly examining how calculus concepts are applied in mechanics and other STEM fields. Recent work emphasizes institutional analysis of mathematics teaching, comparative studies of teacher practices, and the relevance of advanced mathematics for teacher training.
