Dr. Alejandro G. Graziano serves as Assistant Professor in the School of Economics at the University of Nottingham, with additional affiliations as a CESifo Network Member and recent Visiting Researcher (July-August 2023). Previously, he held a Research Fellow position at the Inter-American Development Bank.
His academic credentials include a PhD from the University of Maryland, College Park, a Master's from Universidad de San Andres (Argentina), and a Bachelor's from Universidad de Buenos Aires. This foundation supports his specialized work at the intersection of trade theory and policy application.
Research focuses prominently on international trade dynamics, with emphasis on trade facilitation policies, border processing systems, and market structure impacts. His methodology integrates empirical analysis of real-world trade data with theoretical modeling to address questions of policy relevance, particularly regarding how bureaucratic barriers affect export participation and frequency.
Recent publications reveal consistent output in high-impact venues, with 2024 works examining multinational location decisions under trade policy shifts and global shock propagation through supply chains. These build upon his foundational 2021 research demonstrating quantifiable export gains from transit system improvements in Central America.
- Trading Places: How Trade Policy Is Reshaping Multinational Firms’ Location (2024)
- Unpacking Global Shocks (2024)
- The Effects of Transit Systems on International Trade (2021)
Current projects demonstrate strong continuity in his research program, investigating digital border procedures in Costa Rica, industrial concentration effects on trade welfare, pandemic disruption impacts, and Brexit uncertainty consequences. These initiatives maintain his signature focus on policy-relevant trade barriers while expanding into emerging challenges like digitalization and systemic shocks.
His collaborative approach is evident through multi-institutional publications and CESifo engagement, providing students opportunities to work on cutting-edge trade policy questions with international research networks.
