Alejandra Irigoin

Dr. Alejandra Irigoin is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economic History at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Her research focuses on early modern global economic and monetary history, particularly the economic history of Latin America during the colonial period and the comparative political economy of empire. She holds a PhD in Economic History from LSE (2000), an MA from Instituto Torcuato di Tella (1991), and a BA in History from Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata (1985).

Dr. Irigoin has held academic positions at institutions including The College of New Jersey (2004–2010), Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (2002–2004), and Universidad Torcuato di Tella (2000–2001). She has received prestigious fellowships such as the Audrey Lumsden-Kouvel Research Fellowship (2009) and the Andrew W. Mellon Research Fellowship (2004–2005).

Her research explores the political economy of the Spanish Empire, fiscal and monetary fragmentation in postcolonial Latin America, and the global impact of silver trade. Notable publications include *A Stakeholder Empire* (2010) and *Gresham on Horsebacks* (2009). She has contributed to conferences and journals on topics ranging from 19th-century monetary policies to the legacy of colonial fiscal systems. Dr. Irigoin’s work bridges economic history with global and colonial studies, emphasizing institutional frameworks and their historical trajectories.
