Alec Parkin is a Lecturer in Computer Animation at the Belfast School of Art, part of Ulster University's Faculty of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences. He serves as Course Director for the BDes Hons Animation program and is deeply involved in Belfast's local animation and games industry, actively contributing to the growth of this sector in Northern Ireland.
As an artist and educator, Parkin has extensive experience working in creative hubs across London and Belfast on diverse digital productions including TV commercials, television shows, and games for mobile, console, and PC platforms. His practical industry experience as a 3D generalist with a specialization in character animation and digital composition directly informs his teaching approach at the Belfast School of Art.
Parkin's research focuses on the intersection of digital arts and virtual production techniques, particularly their applications in theater and performance. His work explores how virtual production pipelines can enhance theatrical affordances, creating new possibilities for immersive storytelling and audience engagement.
