Aldrin V. Gomes is a Professor and Vice Chair of Undergraduate Curriculum in the Department of Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior at the University of California, Davis. His research focuses on cardiovascular and muscle physiology with an emphasis on oxidative stress mechanisms, NSAID-induced toxicity, and proteasome dysfunction in cardiac and skeletal muscle cells. He has authored numerous studies on the effects of environmental toxins, pharmaceuticals, and dietary interventions on cellular proteostasis and mitochondrial function.
Key research areas include: (1) Cardiotoxic effects of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen and diclofenac, (2) Oxidative stress pathways triggered by herbicides and acetaminophen, (3) Molecular mechanisms of muscle dysfunction in myopathies, (4) Gender-specific responses to pharmacological agents, and (5) Development of standardized protocols for antibody validation in proteomics research.
Recent work has explored synergistic therapies for cancer-associated cachexia, telemedicine applications in urological follow-up, and epigenetic regulation in aging vasculature. His lab maintains a strong focus on translational research with implications for cardiovascular health, neurodegenerative diseases, and environmental health policy.
