Albin Stjernbrandt is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Umeå University's Department of Epidemiology and Global Health, with a dual role as a Senior Consultant Physician. His research focuses on occupational and environmental health, particularly the effects of physical factors like cold exposure, vibration, and extreme weather on worker health and productivity. He leads the Vibration, Ergonomics, Climate and Translational Occupational Research (VECTOR) group, investigating health impacts of Arctic working conditions, including musculoskeletal disorders, Raynaud’s phenomenon, and neurovascular injuries. His work combines epidemiological studies, clinical trials, and interventional approaches to develop preventive measures for occupational hazards. He teaches in the Medical Program and the Bachelor’s Program of Science in Environmental Health at Umeå University.
- Research Group: VECTOR (Vibration, Ergonomics, Climate and Translational Occupational Research)
- Key Areas: Cold exposure effects, hand-arm vibration syndrome, workplace ergonomics, Arctic occupational health
Dr. Stjernbrandt’s research emphasizes translating scientific findings into actionable policies for safer work environments. He has contributed to studies on blood biomarkers for vibration exposure, cold stress testing methodologies, and the epidemiology of occupational respiratory diseases among Arctic miners. Recent work includes prospective analyses of cold-induced musculoskeletal disorders and the longitudinal impact of Raynaud’s phenomenon on work ability.
His teaching spans occupational and environmental health topics, integrating clinical practice with academic rigor. Collaborations extend to Arctic health initiatives and interdisciplinary projects addressing climate change impacts on labor conditions.
