معرفی
Alberto Smith is a Professor of Vascular Sciences at King's College London's School of Cardiovascular Medicine & Sciences (SCMMS) at the Southbank campus. He maintains an active research program with 165 research outputs, 76 projects (2 currently active), and has supervised 15 students throughout his career.
His research focuses on vascular pathologies with emphasis on:
- Elucidation of mechanisms, biomarkers and genetics of vascular remodeling processes
- Development of structural and functional imaging modalities for diagnosis and disease progression prediction
- Specific areas: venous disease (thrombosis and vein valve development), arterial disease (atherosclerosis and aneurysm)
Professor Smith's work integrates in vitro and in vivo disease models with patient investigations to understand "the unstable vessel wall and thrombosis." His recent publications demonstrate a continued focus on vascular biology with increasing attention to vascular complications in COVID-19 patients, ischemic limb revascularization techniques, and advanced diagnostic methods for peripheral arterial disease.
His research has received significant attention, with publications picked up by numerous news outlets and widely shared across social media platforms including X, Facebook, and Reddit.
Professor Smith actively collaborates with researchers across multiple institutions and serves as Principal or Co-Investigator on several British Heart Foundation-funded projects examining anti-inflammatory treatments, MRI strategies for ischemic limbs, and venous outflow obstruction effects.
