Alberto Plazzi

Alberto Plazzi is a Full Professor of Finance at the Faculty of Economics and Vice-Dean at the University of Italian Switzerland (USI). He serves as Scientific Director of the USI Master in Finance and is a Faculty Member of the Swiss Finance Institute (SFI). His academic roles include editorial board membership for the Journal of Empirical Finance since 2016. Plazzi holds a PhD in Finance from UCLA Anderson School of Management and additional degrees from the University of Bergamo and University of Turin.

His research focuses on Empirical Asset Pricing, Real Estate Markets, Financial Econometrics, and Credit Risk. Notable contributions include studies on hedge fund behavior, corporate-sovereign credit linkages during crises, and bond market predictability. His work has been published in top-tier journals such as Management Science, Journal of Banking and Finance, and Review of Financial Studies.

Teaching includes courses on Risk Management, Financial Intermediation, and Quantitative Methods for Finance at master’s and doctoral levels. He received the Credit Suisse Award for Best Teaching at USI in 2014. Plazzi’s expertise extends to regulatory implications of financial markets and institutional investor behavior.

Current affiliations and leadership roles highlight his involvement in academic administration and finance education. His research frequently addresses global financial crises, market efficiency, and the interplay between corporate and sovereign credit risks.
