Alberto Guerrero is a Lecturer, Practicum Faculty Adviser, and Practicum Seminar Instructor at the Smith College School for Social Work (SSW). He holds a Ph.D. in Social Justice Education from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, an M.S.W. from the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College, and a B.S. in Elementary Education from Manhattan College.

His research focuses on the intersection of trauma, legal system involvement, and zero-tolerance policies impacting adolescents returning to schools after incarceration. He advocates for creating inclusive educational environments for students with carceral histories. Prior to academia, Guerrero worked as a middle school teacher in Chicago, a clinician in mental health, and a forensic social worker in New York City’s legal system.
