معرفی
Alberto Giuseppe Sapora is an Associate Professor in the Department of Structural, Building and Geotechnical Engineering (DISEG) at the Politecnico di Torino, where he also serves as Vice-Rector for Internationalization and Coordinator of the Internationalization Table. He is a member of the SISCON Interdepartmental Center for the Safety of Infrastructures and Constructions. His academic roles include teaching in PhD programs in Mathematical Sciences and Civil and Environmental Engineering, and offering courses such as Failure Analysis of Brittle Structures, Solid and Fracture Mechanics, and Structural Mechanics II.
His research focuses on the mechanics of solids and structures, particularly brittle fracture, cohesive crack modeling, finite fracture mechanics (FFM), and fatigue behavior. He investigates crack propagation in homogeneous and composite materials and applies fractal geometry and fractional calculus to solid mechanics. He leads the Fracture Mechanics Laboratory (DISEG) and manages research projects, including the mechanical modeling of an electrolyzer under commercial consultancy.
The analysis of his recent publications reveals a strong emphasis on computational and theoretical fracture mechanics, with recurring themes including size effects, crack initiation from notches and holes, multiaxial fatigue, and comparisons between FFM and phase-field models. His work integrates numerical modeling, experimental validation, and theoretical innovation in structural integrity and material failure prediction.
Scientific Awards:
- Mentoring Polito Project (M2P), issued by Politecnico di Torino on 06-06-2024
Advising and Grants: He supervises PhD students including Giacomo Petraglia, Francesco Ferrian, and Amir Mohammad Mirzaei, whose research spans computational fracture mechanics, phase-field modeling, and fatigue in composites. He has led funded research projects, such as the mechanical modeling of an electrolyzer (2024), and serves as Scientific Director for a non-commercial collaboration between Politecnico di Torino and Alliance Francaise Torino (2025–2028).
Labs and Teams: He is affiliated with the Fracture Mechanics Laboratory (DISEG) and contributes to the SISCON Interdepartmental Center, fostering interdisciplinary research in infrastructure safety.
