Alberto Barbaro

Alberto Barbaro is a PhD candidate in Electrical, Electronics and Communications Engineering at the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications (DET) of the Polytechnic University of Turin, currently in his 39th cycle (2023-2026). He also serves as an external lecturer and teaching assistant in the same department, contributing to the Applied Electronics course for Electronics Engineering students in the 2024/25 academic year.

Barbaro's research spans multiple domains within electrical engineering and environmental monitoring. His work focuses on power electronics, particularly GaN-based converters and electromagnetic interference mitigation techniques. He has made significant contributions to the development of low-cost, multi-sensor systems for Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) monitoring. His research integrates hardware design, sensor networks, and data processing to create comprehensive monitoring solutions that assess thermal, visual, acoustic, and air-quality conditions in indoor environments.

His publication record demonstrates a clear progression from foundational work on electromagnetic compatibility to sophisticated multi-sensor IEQ monitoring systems. A notable trend in his research is the development of the PROMET&O system (PROactive Monitoring for indoor EnvironmenTal quality & cOmfort), which integrates objective IEQ metrics with subjective occupant feedback to create a holistic assessment of indoor environments.
