Albert Sanchez Niubo is a Lecturer at the Department of Social Psychology and Quantitative Psychology at the University of Barcelona since October 2021. He holds a Doctorate in Mathematics from the University of Barcelona (2014) and has held academic roles including Associate Professor at the University of Barcelona (2010–2014) and Visiting Lecturer at Pompeu Fabra University (2014–2015). His research focuses on epidemiology of mental health, aging, and causal inference methods. He leads the national research project PI19/00107 on cognitive decline in depression and its biopsychosocial impact, and coordinates work packages in European projects: ATHLOS (aging trajectories), SYNCHROS (data harmonization), and PERMIT (precision medicine cohorts). He also collaborates on the RESPOND project addressing mental health during the pandemic and a TV3 Marathon project on similar themes.
Education: Licenciatura in Statistics (2002, UB), Diplomatura in Statistics (2005, UPC), Advanced Studies Diploma in Biostatistics (2007, UB), PhD in Mathematics and Statistics (2014, UB).
Research interests include harmonization of epidemiological data, healthy aging epidemiology, causal inference, and mental health. His work spans projects like ATHLOS (2015–2020), which integrated 37 cohorts across 28 countries, and studies on socioeconomic determinants of health outcomes. Recent publications emphasize cross-national mortality analysis, multimorbidity patterns, and cognitive aging metrics developed through international consortia.
Grants include the Instituto de Salud Carlos III (2020–2022) and European Commission funding (SYNCHROS, ATHLOS). He has advised master’s and bachelor’s theses on methodological topics in epidemiology and data analysis. His current work addresses pandemic mental health impacts and precision medicine cohort design.
