Albert Gahr

Brother Albert Gahr, O.S.B. is an Associate Professor at Saint Vincent College's Herbert W. Boyer School of Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Computing. He has been teaching since Fall 2012 and serves as Faculty Advisor for the Aquarium Club, having previously advised the Tri-Beta Honor Society until 2022. His work bridges genetics, developmental biology, and aquaculture research.

• Education: BS in Biology from Saint Vincent College, PhD in Genetics and Developmental Biology from West Virginia University, and MA in Monastic Studies from Saint Vincent Seminary.

Gahr's research focuses on genetic and genomic analysis of agriculturally significant species like chickens and rainbow trout, with particular emphasis on muscle growth, embryonic development, and gene expression. He employs zebrafish as a model organism and investigates TGF-Beta/Activin/Nodal signaling pathways in fish physiology.

His publications highlight collaborations on topics ranging from somatotropin effects on trout transcriptomes to TLR gene characterization. While no formal scientific awards are listed, his presentations at national conferences reflect active academic engagement.
