Albert Flexas Oliver

Albert Flexas Oliver is a Professor in the Department of Applied Pedagogy and Educational Psychology at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB). He returned to UIB at the end of 2017 as a Visiting Professor and currently serves as director of the Developmental and Educational Psychology Unit of Management Undergraduate Studies. Prior to this, he was Director of the Psychology Degree at Isabel I University from 2015-2017, and had previously worked as a researcher at UIB's Department of Psychology from 2009-2016.

His research focuses primarily on neuroesthetics (biological bases of aesthetic appreciation) and neuroethics (biological bases of moral cognition). He has published in prestigious journals including Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, PLOS One, and Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience. His work employs neuroimaging techniques to explore how the brain processes beauty and moral judgments.

His recent publications show a continued focus on aesthetic appreciation, moral decision-making, and bullying research. The trend in his work demonstrates a progression from fundamental neuroaesthetic studies toward more applied research in educational contexts, particularly regarding cyberbullying and moral development in youth.

He has received the Extraordinary Doctoral Prize for the 2013-14 biennium in the doctoral program in Human Cognition and Evolution.

Beyond academia, Flexas is a screenwriter and audiovisual producer who co-founded Mallorca Creativa. His short films have won awards at international film festivals and have been screened globally. He has also applied his expertise in storytelling and entrepreneurship to teaching innovation, marketing, and entrepreneurship consulting.

He is certified as a psychologist, with provisional accreditation obtained in 2014 that became definitive in 2018 and was extended nationwide.
