Alazne Belar Beitia

Alazne Belar Beitia is a Researcher at the University of Navarra, affiliated with the School of Nursing and the Cancer Center Clínica Universidad de Navarra (CCUN). She is a core member of the ATLANTES Global Observatory of Palliative Care and the Palliative Medicine research group within the Onco-Hematology Area of the Navarra Institute for Health Research (IdiSNA).

Her academic background includes a Nursing degree and Master's in Neuroscience from the University of the Basque Country, and a Master's in Palliative Care in Nursing plus PhD in Applied Medicine and Biomedicine from the University of Navarra (2019). Her doctoral thesis examined the experience of 'wanting to die' in advanced disease patients.

Dr. Belar Beitia's research focuses on psychological and existential dimensions of palliative care, specifically the 'wish to die' phenomenon, suffering, demoralization in advanced illness, and palliative sedation. Her work has produced 15 JCR-indexed publications (12 Q1, 3 Q2) and 3 book chapters, with significant contributions as first/corresponding author.

Her scientific recognition includes:
