معرفی
Alastair Edge is a Professor in Astronomy in the Extragalactic Astronomy group of the Department of Physics at Durham University. His research focuses on clusters of galaxies from an X-ray perspective, particularly cooling flows and the presence of molecular gas.
Education:
- BSc in Physics, University of York (1982-1985)
- PhD in Astronomy, University of Leicester (1985-1989)
Research Interests: Professor Edge's research spans extragalactic astronomy with a focus on galaxy clusters. He utilizes X-ray observations to study cooling flows in cluster cores, where the gas cools and forms substantial amounts of molecular gas and dust. His work includes surveys such as the ROSAT All-Sky Survey (MACS sample) and the UKIDSS Deep eXtragalactic Survey. He also conducts optical and infrared studies of central cluster galaxies using instruments like Hubble Space Telescope, IRAM, JCMT, and VLT.
Scientific Awards:
- Royal Society University Research Fellow
Grants and Projects: As a Royal Society University Research Fellow, Dr. Edge has led significant projects including the UKIDSS DXS survey and the VLT FORS and VIMOS survey of Southern BCGs. He has coordinated large observational campaigns and served on telescope time allocation committees.
Labs and Teams: He is a member of the Extragalactic Astronomy group at Durham University's Department of Physics, which is part of the Centre for Extragalactic Astronomy.
