Alasdair Richmond is a Senior Lecturer in Philosophy at the University of Edinburgh's School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences. He holds a PhD and two other degrees from the University of Aberdeen. His research focuses on metaphysics, philosophy of science, and the philosophy of time travel, with notable contributions to debates on the Anthropic Principle, Doomsday Arguments, and temporal paradoxes. He has authored multiple books, including Berkeley's Principles of Human Knowledge: A Reader's Guide and co-edited volumes like Philosophy for Everyone.
- Teaching roles: Programme Director for the online MSc in Epistemology, Ethics and Mind.
- Recognitions: Campbell Award for Teaching (2010-2011), shortlisted for Best Personal Tutor (2022-2023).
His research explores themes such as time travel’s philosophical implications, simulation hypotheses, and historical counterfactuals. He has published over 30 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, including works on temporal topology and parahistorical dilemmas.
Recent projects include a book manuscript Time Travel for Philosophers and a series of articles analyzing time travel’s ethical and epistemic challenges.
