Dr. Alanna L. Lecher is an Associate Professor of Scientific Literacy and Environmental Science at Lynn University, Florida. She holds roles including University Research Coordinator and Chair of the Research and Scholarship Committee. With a B.S. in Environmental Science and Policy from the University of South Florida and a Ph.D. in Earth and Planetary Sciences from the University of California, Santa Cruz, her expertise spans Hydrology, Oceanography, Biogeochemistry, and Archaeology. Her research focuses on coastal processes, submarine groundwater discharge, and sustainable archaeology. Dr. Lecher actively engages with the Florida Undergraduate Research Association (FURA), serving on its Board of Directors and as its vice-chair since 2025.
Her work integrates scientific literacy with environmental issues, emphasizing community engagement and undergraduate research. Key contributions include developing a sustainable archaeology field school in South Florida and evaluating the impact of service-learning courses on the UN Sustainable Development Goals. She has received awards such as the Lynn University Scholarship and Creative Activities Award (2019–2020) and the Service and Dedication Award (2023–2024). Dr. Lecher mentors numerous students in projects ranging from geoarchaeology to coastal hydrology, fostering hands-on learning. Her lab collaborates on initiatives like Project Open RaDOM, advancing groundwater modeling. She also contributes to public outreach through blogs and media, highlighting climate change impacts on coastal ecosystems and archaeological sites.
