معرفی
Alan L. Kafka is an Associate Professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Boston College. His research focuses on geophysics, earthquake science, and community science, particularly exploring patterns in seismicity and human-induced earthquakes. He develops methods like Cellular Seismology to predict seismic activity and mitigate hazards.
Education:
- B.A., New York University
- M.S., Stony Brook University
- Ph.D., Stony Brook University
Research Interests: Investigating Eastern U.S. earthquakes, human-environment interactions, and applying seismology to community science. Active in promoting science education and earthquake awareness through blogs and social media.
Recent Projects: Advising students on Cellular Seismology applications, hydraulic fracturing impacts, and earthquake prediction. Collaborates globally, as seen in the 2020 Science paper on pandemic seismic quieting.
Labs/Teams: Affiliated with the Weston Observatory's New England Seismic Network, monitoring regional seismic activity and public outreach.
