Alan Heckman, DMSc, PA-C, serves as Associate Professor and Chair of the Medical Studies Major within the College of Healthcare Professions at DeSales University, where he has been a faculty member since 2013. He brings over two decades of clinical expertise spanning emergency medicine, family medicine, cardiothoracic surgery, and critical care to his academic role.
His educational credentials include:
- Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education (Communications specialization) from Kutztown University (2004)
- Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from DeSales University (2011)
- Doctor of Medical Science from the University of Lynchburg focusing on Emergency Management and Global Health (2024)
Dr. Heckman's scholarly focus centers on emergency medicine systems, global health initiatives, and emergency management frameworks. His doctoral research directly addresses intersections between disaster response and healthcare infrastructure, while his clinical background in critical care and cardiothoracic surgery informs his educational methodology.
