معرفی
Alan F. Heyduk is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Chemistry at the University of California, Irvine (UCI). His research focuses on harnessing redox-active ligands for multi-electron reactivity, with emphasis on small molecule activation, group/atom transfer reactivity, and artificial photosynthesis. He leads the Heyduk Group, which investigates ligand-centered electron/hydrogen transfer mechanisms and designs catalysts for sustainable chemical transformations.
Education:
- Ph.D., Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2001), Advisor: Prof. Daniel G. Nocera
- Postdoctoral Research, California Institute of Technology (2001–2003), Advisor: Prof. John E. Bercaw
- B.S., The Ohio State University (1995), Advisor: Prof. Bruce E. Bursten
Research Interests:
The Heyduk Group explores redox-active ligands as platforms for multi-electron chemistry. Key areas include:
- Design of catalysts for N2, CO2, and small molecule reduction
- Development of group-transfer reactivity in early transition metal complexes
- Modular approaches to artificial photosynthesis (light absorption, charge separation, fuel/oxidant formation)
Lab Members:
Current graduate students include Jennifer Jaimes (6th year), Isis Lee (6th year), Bach Nguyen (1st year), Jake Stofan (5th year), and Vivian Yuen (3rd year). The group emphasizes collaborative, student-run research with annual lab retreats, ACS conference participation, and interdisciplinary projects.
Awards & Recognition:
While no specific awards are listed, the group’s work has been published in high-impact journals like J. Am. Chem. Soc., Inorganic Chemistry, and Chemical Science.
Future Directions:
Current projects aim to integrate redox-active ligands into systems for solar-to-chemical energy conversion and sustainable C–H bond functionalization.
